The Joe Wright Scholarship

The Joe Wright Scholarship


The Joe Wright Scholarship is given each year to qualifying seniors in five categories. Applicants may apply for a scholarship in one of the categories: academic, athletic, character, fine arts, and greatest need.

1. Please choose one category for which to apply.
2. Fill out the attached application page.
3. Write a 200 word essay on why you should be chosen to receive the scholarship for that category.
4. Provide two letters of reference. You may not use Ms. Lindsey for this scholarship as she chairs the selection committee.
5. Provide a copy of your letter of acceptance from the college you are attending.

Deadline: Thursday, May 10th at 3:00 p.m.

The Links, Inc. Scholarship

Requirements:
1.        Applicant must be a graduating high school senior with definite plans to enroll in a four year college/university in the fall of 2018.
2.       Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in academic courses completed in grades 9-12.
Application packets must include the following information and documentation:
           
1.      Completed application form
2.      Official high school transcript. (Must be signed by the high school Counselor)
3.      Documentation of financial need. (If applying for need-based scholarship, ex. Signed
W-2 supporting parent(s) / guardian(s)
4.      Three letters of recommendation
** Turn in completed application and 3 letters of recommendation to the OGHS Guidance Department no later than Friday, April 20th.**

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport’s Ambassadors program is a customer service initiative to make sure all passengers feel at home the minute they arrive at BHM. Currently, we are looking for individuals to join the Airport Ambassadors Program. This volunteer opportunity provides a courteous and friendly welcome as well as general assistance to travelers at BHM.  Airport Ambassador duties include:
  • Greeting travelers
  • Engaging patrons in conversation
  • Guiding people through the terminal
  • Answering general questions travelers may have
  • Helping out during events
  • Telling travelers about new amenities and events going on
  • Storytelling time
  • Community Tours

Those interested in becoming an Airport Ambassador must have a passion for helping others and the city of Birmingham. Volunteers will learn about Alabama’s busiest airport and how it operates, as well as get to interact with people from all over the world on a daily basis. This is a customer service position with a lot of talking involved so having good communication skills is a must. Each volunteer will attend an orientation session and complete one training shift. To be eligible to become an Ambassador, you must be at least 18 years old and commit to volunteering once a week for a minimum of three months. Mike Cox Memorial Education Scholarship

This is a one-time $1,000 education scholarship award made to two deserving seniors, public, high school students in the state of Alabama. The scholarship award is made to the post secondary school selected by the awarded student and to the student. 

Award Guidelines:
  1. The parent/guardian listed has been an active employee in a local Alabama public school transportation program for the past three years.
  2. The student applicant has at least a 3.0 (B) scholastic average, will graduate from a public high school, and will attend a post secondary educational institution in the fall of 2018.

Horatio Alger Career and Technical Scholarship 

The Career & Technical Scholarship Program is funded through the Horatio Alger Endowment Fund and the generosity of Association Chairman Emeritus and Endowment Fund President Walter Scott, Jr.  Scholarships are awarded to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Have completed high school (or earned a high school equivalency credential)
  • Will be enrolled in eligible program in Fall 2018
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program (up to 2 years) at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States
  • Demonstrated critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA)
  • Demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity
  • Be under the age of 30
  • Be a United States citizen

Applicant Eligibility Requirements
  • Open to high school seniors or college students who are legal residents of the United States
  • Scholarship payable to the winner who should be living in the United States
  • Students must be enrolled in a school semester beginning no later than Fall 2018
  • Winner is not based on financial need
  • Relatives of Fresh n’ Lean staff may not enter
  • Home-schooled students may apply so long as your course of study is equivalent to a high school senior

Dr. Troy Dreiling and Zenaptic Chiropractic are proud to announce the 1st annual Zenaptic Chiropractic Scholarship! This scholarship was created with college students in mind. Higher education has become increasingly expensive. This expense has also become increasingly necessary. This scholarship is designed to help a current or prospective student in their college career. Applicants will be required to answer a simple question and the winner will be selected by a committee by the end of May, 2018. One winner will be selected and receive $1000 towards higher education.

Who: LSCC is excited to offer several full tuition scholarships for incoming freshman majoring in Fine Arts with a focus on Art Studio, Art Education, Graphic Design, and/or Art History.

About:Alabama Girls State is a week-long, fun-filled, hands-on learning opportunity for some of the best and brightest young women in the State of Alabama. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA), Alabama Girls State is a premier youth leadership program which offers a one-of-a-kind experience to its delegates. 

Who:
  • Be a legal inhabitant of the United States. Participants must provide a copy of their U.S. birth certificate or their U.S. government-issued documentation verifying they are in the United States legally, e.g. green card or visa.

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Scholarship Program

Applicants to the Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Scholarship Program must be: 

  • High school seniors from the following areas in Alabama: Jefferson County and Tuscaloosa County, who plan to enroll in a full-time** undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school by the fall term following the application period.
  Or: 
  • High school seniors who are dependent children* of full-time Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. Jefferson State Community College scholarships are open to students entering as freshman. The requirements for the Jefferson State Counselor's Scholarship Award are:


  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher at the end of their 1st semester senior year;
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or provide proper residency status;
  • Must have completed an admissions application to Jefferson State for the Fall 2018 semester.
