Dear Lena,
Creating a stellar applicant pool is really a partnership between the Office of Admission and high school counselors. We hope the information in this email will help you understand even more what types of students we think are a great fit and how we determine that.
What do we look for? Academic accomplishments are important, but so are the personal qualities of each applicant. Emory students are intellectually curious, collaborative, and civically engaged. They’re the type of student who, when a subject catches their attention, will learn as much about it as they can. That inquisitive spirit follows them here, especially in
choosing a major.
About 50% of our students double major, often in unusual combinations that span the humanities, arts, and sciences.
Each class is different, and every year we approach crafting the incoming classes for Emory College and Oxford College anew. The majority of our applications are reviewed using a committee-based evaluation (CBE) model.
We look at individual situations and meritApplicants often worry that the curriculum their school offers will negatively impact them. Perhaps their school isn’t an IB school. Or it does not have many AP courses. Or it grades differently from the county next door.
Please assure your students that we consider the curricular opportunities offered within the context of their school when reviewing their applications.
